Initial Consultation
To begin the process, you’ll need to come and see Dr. Umair Waheed for a consultation at Opal Dental Group. At your appointment, he will examine your mouth, discuss the cosmetic issues with your smile, and explain the options that may be right for your treatment, such as porcelain veneers.
If you’re approved for veneers and choose this treatment, you’ll schedule a follow-up at Opal Dental Group for your initial tooth preparation and impressions.
Tooth Preparation & Impressions
To begin your next appointment, Dr. Waheed will clean your teeth and then numb your mouth for your comfort. We also offer sedation at our office to keep you comfortable as your teeth are prepared.
To prepare for veneers, Dr. Waheed will remove some enamel from each tooth that’s getting a veneer. This is done to make sure the veneers don’t make your teeth too bulky, and to ensure your bite isn’t altered by veneer placement.
Once your teeth have been trimmed, Dr. Waheed will take molds and impressions of the teeth, which he will send to a dental lab where your veneers will be built. You will go home with a set of temporary veneers.
Designing & Building Your Permanent Veneers
Over the next week or two, our partner dental lab will build a set of lifelike veneers that match your existing teeth perfectly. Your veneers will be carefully sculpted and crafted out of tooth-like porcelain, ensuring fantastic results. Then, they’ll be sent back to Opal Dental Group.
Porcelain Veneer Placement
About 2-3 weeks after your initial tooth preparation appointment, you’ll come back to have your porcelain veneers placed by Dr. Waheed. At this appointment, Dr. Waheed will begin by removing your temporaries and cleaning your teeth.
Then, he will check your teeth and your veneers to make sure that they fit perfectly. Then, he will use special dental adhesive to attach them to your teeth. Your teeth and veneers will be cleaned and polished, then you’ll be sent home to enjoy your new smile.
Aftercare For Veneers
For the most part, you can treat your veneers just like natural teeth. Brush and floss regularly and make sure you see Dr. Waheed for an oral exam and teeth cleaning every six months.
Beyond this, you will also want to avoid chewing extremely hard foods with your front teeth. You also should break the habit of chewing on non-food objects like fingernails or pens, if applicable. Finally, don’t use your teeth as tools to open up bags, tear tape, or for anything other than chewing food.
